The School participated in a Wakakirri heat at the Riverside Theatre, Parramatta. Anyone fortunate enough to have been there last Wednesday will attest to the fact that it was a superb effort by an amazing team of performers, backstage crew, family supporters and ably led by Ms Dickson, Mrs Amor, Mrs Reynolds and Mr Perkins. We were presented with a number of awards on the night with two in particular worth highlighting. St John Fisher was presented with the ‘Spirit of Wakakirri’ because the story, Mr Huff, embodied all the elements that make Wakakirri such a great experience for participants. We also received the state award for the ‘Best Mental Health’ Story. Being a school that strives to focus on the well-being of our students, we were particularly proud of this acknowledgement. The story of Mr Huff has raised deep conversation about mental health, and how we can seek support from family and friends in times of need.
We heard last Monday that St John Fisher will be in the Wakakirri Finals and will perform their piece one last time on the 13th of September at Homebush. A mighty effort and we now look forward to whatever the final might bring.
