On Monday 31st July, our beautiful school Mission Team took the journey down to Mary Mac’s Place at Woy Woy to deliver the much-needed items donated by our amazing SJF families. The students, accompanied by our Assistant Principal, Parent Engagement Coordinator, and School Marketing Officer, presented a cheque for $530 to Mary Mac’s Support Worker, Sally, along with a car boot full of food and essential items.
Our team were lucky enough to see the incredible charity work first hand with a tour of the place that many of our disadvantaged community call ‘home’, and learned that Mary Mac’s Place receive no funding and operate solely on donations and volunteers. Many community members arrived whilst we were there, coming to get a meal, essential items, and wash their clothes thanks to Orange Sky mobile laundry. We quickly learned that Mary Mac’s Place also serves as a haven of comfort, companionship, and support for the many people that come through their door.
The kitchen smelled amazing with meals being prepared using fresh food which is nearing its shelf life at major supermarkets. The produce is collected by 2nd Bite and Oz Harvest, and delivered to charity organisations such as Mary Mac’s Place. There is also a pantry filled with essential items which can be accessed by anyone who needs it.
Sally explained how grateful they are for our donations and support, as the next generation – our children, play a very important role in the future of vital charities such as Mary Mac’s Place.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts to all our families for their donations, and to Isla S for knitting beanies. SJF are looking forward to raising further donations and offering some hands-on support by our students at the centre very soon!
